Allen Berg Racing Schools Recieve SCCA Competition Licensing

ALLEN BERG RACING SCHOOLS AT AUTO CLUB SPEEDWAY RECEIVES SCCA COMPETITION LICENSING ACCREDITATION

It was announced today that the newest branch of the Allen Berg Racing Schools (at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California) is now authorized to recommend students for a Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Regional Competition License upon the student's successful completion of the comprehensive ABRS race driving program.

From Jeff Dahnert Club President: SCCA is pleased to welcome Allen Berg Racing Schools to our accredited driving school program. Our members have many different needs when it comes to driver training and our accredited schools offer a valuable option to drivers interested in starting a racing career with SCCA.

"This is great news for us and for all of our potential students," said owner and former Formula 1 driver, Allen Berg. "We not only try to teach car control and the technical side of driving, but, in our full three-day course, we work on racecraft and the fundamentals of competition."

ABRS uses sleek, single-seat, open-wheel formula cars with on-board data acquisition systems as their rolling classrooms. The cars feature a full carbon fiber monocoque chassis manufactured in Italy by Tatuus, 1,600cc twin-cam, fuel-injected engines, and 5-speed ZF sequential-shifting gear boxes. "We've found these machines to give students the best feel and super-accurate feedback. They're precise and really respond to quick, clean driving," Berg went on.

Already-licensed drivers or drivers who do not need to qualify for an SCCA competition license will have the option of one and two day ABRS schools at Auto Club Speedway. "Think of our one, two, and three-day schools almost like stages of higher education," said Berg.

"Our two day schools are like getting a degree, and our three-day is grad school," said Berg. We tailor each experience differently, but at the conclusion of each of our three offerings, we feel that our students have received the absolute maximum amount of driving, coaching, feed-back, and personal involvement possible in that time period. Students have a wonderful time learning what it takes to make a car go fast consistently, and end up understanding a great deal about themselves in all of our schools."

Using an ultra-sophisticated MoTec data acquisition system and Contour GPS video camera (both on-board) each student can see their laps and chart their improvement throughout the track sessions.

At the conclusion of their "studies" at ABRS (one, two, or the full three days) each student is given access to a special section of the school's website where they can download the MoTec software, their own on-track data traces, and video of their driving for home study as well as to share with friends.

"Our ability to recommend drivers for their Sports Car Club of America Regional Competition Licenses through our three-day school here at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana is something which we're very proud of," Berg indicated. "We've got an exciting year ahead, and I'm personally looking forward to working with our students; I always learn something from each of them!"

Allen Berg has over thirty years of successful professional racing experience that includes driving in Formula 1, Two, Three, and Atlantic, World Prototypes, and Indy Lights. His style is friendly, and strongly hands-on. Berg personally works with every person in every group that attends ABRS, taking time to listen and then answer questions about real high-performance driving that only come to the surface under controlled conditions on the road course in a real racing car.

"… You can preach racing theory all you want, but if you really want to see students 'get it', you send them out in a quick formula car for some fast base laps and then start the conversation at: Whoa! Our system gets our student's attention from turn one of lap one and keeps it right on through to the final lap."

To honor its 50th anniversary, Shelby American™, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK), is unleashing a new line of Anniversary Edition Shelby GTS, GT350® and Super Snake® vehicles. Only 50 white and 50 black of each post title Shelby model will be manufactured, making it an instant collector’s item and an iconic piece of automotive history.

“Few thought that Shelby American would make it in the car business for 50 years,” said Carroll Shelby. “We built the first Cobra in a rented garage and then GT350’s in an old hanger. But our company is still here, manufacturing the best cars that I’ve ever made. The next 50 years will be even better for Shelby American.”

The Shelby American name is synonymous with high performance worldwide. Over the past five decades, the company has relentlessly pushed the envelope with a string of superior vehicles and parts.

“Our golden anniversary is a remarkable milestone worthy of this limited edition line of Shelby vehicles,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “On the heels of the unprecedented sellout of our 50th Anniversary Edition Cobra 289, we expect demand for these new Shelby’s to be strong.”

Only 50 white and 50 black 50th Anniversary Edition cars are available; each will boast gold stripes to signify the golden anniversary. In addition, each Shelby comes with commemorative 50th anniversary badging, custom interiors, special wheels, 6 piston front brakes, car cover and a unique VIN number that will be entered into the official registry. A special museum delivery ceremony at the Shelby factory in Las Vegas is also included in the package, as well as exclusive collector merchandise.

The most powerful Shelby built yet, the GT500 Super Snake is available in 650, 750 or 800 horsepower configuration as a coupe or convertible. Based on the Ford Shelby GT500, the car is enhanced at the Shelby American facility with more powerful brakes, better handling and updated styling cues to match the higher horsepower motor. The 50 white and 50 black anniversary edition cars will carry gold stripes, a first and one-year only option for the Shelby. The anniversary package begins at $59,995, not including base car.

In 2010, Shelby American returned the storied GT350 name plate to the road. Based on the Ford Mustang 5.0 GT, the car is turned into a high performance muscle car by the Shelby American team. From the LeMans style racing stripes to the 430, 525 or 624 horsepower engine, big brakes and razor sharp suspension, this Shelby is a worthy descendent of the pony car that cemented the Shelby legend. The car is available as a coupe or convertible with the supercharged engine only with a manual transmission, while an automatic is available with the normally aspirated 430 horsepower engine. Previously only offered in red, white or blue, the black version with gold stripes is a one-year anniversary exclusive option. The post title package begins at $59,995, not including the base Ford 5.0 Mustang GT.

The Shelby GTS post title package can be based on either the V6 or 5.0 Ford Mustang. Starting at only $19,995 for the V6 post title package ($24,995 for the V8), the Shelby features upgraded brakes, suspension, tune and appearance. Many options are available for the GTS, including superchargers to boost performance.

“From the 800 horsepower Shelby Super Snake to the agile GT350 and nimble GTS, each 50th anniversary Shelby is built to run,” noted Luft. “A 50-year anniversary only comes around once in life. These limited edition Shelbys will mark that milestone for a select few who have a chance to own a piece of history.”

About Shelby American, Inc.
Founded by legend Carroll Shelby, Shelby American™ manufactures and markets performance vehicles and related products. The company manufactures authentic continuation Cobras®, including the 427 S/C, 289 FIA and 289 street car component vehicles. SEMA has announced that it’s now accepting applications for the 2012 SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships ranging from $1,000–4,000 to students looking to further their education in the automotive industry.

The fund started in 1984 and has since awarded more than $1.5 million in financial awards to more than 600 students that are studying for careers in the automotive aftermarket or related fields.

“Paying for a high-quality education is a challenge for many people, particularly in today’s tough economy,” said Jamie Eriksen, SEMA education director. “SEMA is pleased to play a part in helping students prepare for careers in our industry. The specialty-equipment industry is innovative, dynamic and holds many opportunities for the next generation.”

In order to be eligible for a SEMA Memorial Scholarship, students must apply, provide college transcripts and letters of recommendation. The scholarship is a one-time award that doesn’t have to be paid back, according to SEMA. Awards are granted to eligible applicants based on academic achievements, work experience, community involvement, essay content and recommendations.

Students may re-apply each year, provided that they still meet the eligibility criteria, which are as follows:

Minimum 2.5 grade point average

Must be a U.S. citizen enrolled in a full-time program of study at an accredited university, college, or vocational/technical program in the United States (high school students aren’t eligible for the award)
Pursuing studies leading to a career in the automotive aftermarket or related field

Must have completed a minimum of 25 credit hours from a two-year community college or vocational/technical program or 50 credits hours from a four-year college or university

Must remain enrolled as a full-time student for the first full semester following the award

SEMA members and/or dependents receive special recognition during the application process

In addition to the scholarships, SEMA also provides loan forgiveness awards to recent graduates that go to work for SEMA-member companies and are paying off student loans.

Winners will be notified in the summer of 2012. Scholarship payments are sent directly to the student’s college, university, trade or vocational school to help offset the cost of tuition. Loan-forgiveness payments are sent directly to the financial institutions.

Racer 'n Gearheads Give the Allen Berg Holiday Gearhead Gift ... A Gift Like No Other

in What's HOT: News

Allen Berg Racing Schools (ABRS) has just opened a new operation at southern California's Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Easy to get to from anywhere in the west, Berg's very special brand of intense open wheel race training, will use the Speedway's multi-turn infield road racing course to teach the finer points of braking, shifting, and cornering in carbon fiber formula cars.

"Our outlook is somewhat different from the 'driving experience' operations," Said former Formula 1 driver/school founder, Allen Berg. "We work very closely with each student to help them really understand what it takes to drive very fast in a very quick formula car. Some of our students are just setting out on a racing career, others come to sharpen up, and many others choose to learn with us specifically because of our experience with formula cars. These machines are pure racing cars, no compromises, built for one person to do just one thing in … And that's to go very fast."

ABRS supplies everything from the racecar right down to the special fire-proof driving shoes that a driver will use to dance on the pedals as they snap one of the school's rear-engined formula car up and down through its 5-speed/sequential ZF transmission.

And … Each of these bullet-shaped, winged racecars is equipped with a pro-style MoTec data acquisition system and on-board Contour camera to record every lap for a detailed analysis session back in the garage area. (At ABRS every student goes home with a 4GB thumb drive loaded with the MoTec software, the readout of their performance and video footage of their school laps.)

ABRS has a number of unique racing programs tailored to fit both ambition and budget, and (hey, you guessed it) gift certificates available year-around but, for some reason this is the time when they really seem to be motoring out the door.

There's much more on the ABRS website, including the lowdown on the sort of teaching technique that a championship-winning driver uses to pass along his knowledge of racecraft, the technology behind the machines that are used to accomplish that goal and more.

One more thing, prices are going up in the new year, but all gift certificates and schools that are booked before December 27 will be at the 2011 prices.

The public is invited to ether call or visit ABRS's website for more information and to pick up that very special holiday gift for a very special gearhead.

Hot Rod Parts Guide USAC Driver Makes History - JESSICA CLARK FIRST FEMALE 2-TIME USAC CHAMPION

17 year-old Jessica Clark became just the third female USAC champion in history, and the first to win two championships, winning two USAC Focus Midget championships behind the wheel of the Jessica Clark Racing #44 Focus Midget.

Jessica had wrapped up her first championship of the year in the USAC SoCal Pavement Focus Midget series before the Turkey Night Grand Prix. With her sizable points lead in the USAC Western Pavement Focus Midget series, she just needed to start the race at Turkey Night to claim her second Championship.

The Westlake High School senior also becomes the latest champion to be produced from the highly-lauded Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle. RSWC is a driver development program based in Sacramento, Calif. that selects and develops drivers with career potential in motorsports.

Dick Dixon, Cal State University chair and professor - Automotive Education Alliance / Hot Rod Parts Guide, suggests a bright future for Jessica. "As a former sprint car driver for 18 years, I've seen the greats garner success. Jessica is tagged as a future prospect for greatness as a professional driver with keen attributes, determination, and skill. We are pleased to assist in her development and plan to be a part of this rising star's future in motorsports."

Clark was racing in her third season in the USAC Ford Focus cars and competed in the entire 24 race schedule that encompassed events in Northern and Southern California along with Nevada and Arizona and Utah. Clark’s strong start to the 2011 season saw her lead the USAC National Ford Focus standings throughout the early months as well.

A second place finish in the season opener at I-10 Speedway and Clark’s first career victory at Las Vegas in April propelled her to an early lead in the USAC Western Pavement standings that proved too much for any other competitor to overcome.

Clark added five more runner-up finishes before the year was out, needing only to start Thursday’s Turkey Night Grand Prix finale at TOYOTA Speedway in Irwindale, CA to claim the championship. Clark qualified a strong ninth place out of a 24 car turnout and brought the HotRodPartsGuide.com-sponsored mount in 13th place to seal the deal on the championship.

In addition to the USAC Western Pavement Ford Focus and USAC SoCal Ford Focus crowns, Clark also finished 11th in the National Ford Focus standings and made seven starts in the NASCAR S2 Sportsman for Tim Huddleston’s High Point Racing.

All told, the busy productive season for the 17 year-old racer saw her make 31 starts with 19 top-fives and 30 top-tens.

“We are extremely proud of Jessica and her accomplishments this season,” Driver Coach Ron Sutton said. “She has met and exceeded our high expectations for her and we are already looking forward to what she will accomplish in 2012!”

Jessica Clark Racing’s plans for 2012 are determined at this time but will be announced at a later date.

Jessica Clark Racing and Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle thank partners: HotRodPartsGuide.com, Automotive Education Alliance, Hot Rod Hotline, Total Woman Gym & Day Spa, Justice Brothers, Racecar Factory, K&N Filters, Scribner Plastics, Allstar Performance, Sunoco Race Fuels and Star Racing Supply.
