40th ANNIVERSARY 2011 CATALOG FROM ART MORRISON ENTERPRISES

Noted chassis and suspension components manufacturer Art Morrison Enterprises has marked its 40th anniversary with a special catalog that pays homage to many of the landmark vehicles that shaped the company's history.

From its humble beginnings in 1971, AME has grown from a one-man fabrication shop into a leading manufacturer of complete chassis with a customer base that includes many of the nation's most honored builders.

The 68-page full-color publication features detailed information about the firm's popular GT Sport chassis that are engineered to provide sports car-like handling to a wide variety of '50s, '60s and '70s cars. These “bolt in” chassis are a prime factor in the burgeoning popularity of the 'Resto Mod” style vehicles that combine classic styling with contemporary handling, ride and performance.

Morrison's 2011 catalog also details a full line of custom-made frames, front and rear clips, suspension components and rear end housings. Do-it-yourself home builders will also find a wide assortment of brakes, shock absorbers, steering gear and specialty hardware. And the company's drag racing roots are covered by AME's unique “SuperCar” chassis kits, roll bar kits, wheel tubs and the like.

Faith Granger's movie Deuce of Spades is out on DVD. It is a 1950's hot rod movie that is faithful to the era it portrays. "In some ways it is superior to "American Graffiti and applauds the saucey love affair of 50's rodders, and the women of that era of rodding," according to Dick Dixon, HRPG publisher.

Steve Olliges and Jonathan Swift Make A Huge Impact To Win SNORE's Battle At Primm

The No. 28 BFGoodrich / MasterCraft Safety Unlimited Truck of Steve Olliges and Jonathan Swift bested a field of 11 other competitors last weekend to take the win at SNORE’s Battle at Primm in the premier Unlimited Truck class and second overall. Jonathan Swift, son of racing legend and Ford Rough Riders driver John Swift, drove on Saturday and put the team’s new Geiser Brothers truck second in class, erasing any doubts about whether he inherited the racing gene from his father. “Our MasterCraft Safety 3G suspension seats and Impact! by MasterCraft harnesses kept me secure over the rough course and really let me focus on just driving the truck,” Swift commented after the race.

Olliges took over driving duties of the BFGoodrich / MasterCraft Safety truck on Sunday and continued the consistent pace set by Swift. “Our Fox Shox 4.4-inch bypass shocks worked perfectly right out of the box!” Olliges exclaimed. The 12-mile course at Primm is notoriously rough and crowded, but Olliges was able to work his way through traffic and pick off his competitors one by one. “We didn’t have any flats from our BFGoodrich tires and Trailready beadlock rims,” an enthusiastic Olliges remarked. “Everything clicked this weekend.”

The next race for Olliges is Best in the Desert’s Silver State 300 on April 29-30, where he will once again team up with Jonathan’s father John Swift. The duo previously won the Silver State 300 in 2008 and intends to keep the BFGoodrich / MasterCraft Safety No. 28 winning streak alive.

100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 To Start At Noon, Sunday, May 29

The start of the 100th Anniversary Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for noon (ET) Sunday, May 29 at IMS. The 33 greatest drivers in the world will cross the famed Yard of Bricks to take the green flag for the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 at noon (ET) Sunday, May 29, 2011. The start time has been 1 p.m. since 2006. “With less than 100 days until the 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500, we are excited to finalize our start time so our fans can begin to make plans to celebrate with us at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,” said Jeff Belskus, Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation president and CEO. “Starting the race at noon gives us an additional hour of daylight to ensure we can complete all 500 miles of the race in case we were to encounter any kind of inclement weather. Noon also has the green flag waving in a time slot that is better for our West Coast viewers.

“Our fans also have told us they like an earlier starting time, and it’s very important for us to stay responsive to their vital feedback.” The inaugural Indianapolis 500 in 1911 started at 10 a.m. after race organizers determined that start time would allow the race to be completed by dinner time. That stood as the official starting time for the event through 1941. After a four-year hiatus due to World War II, the race resumed in 1946 with an 11 a.m. start, a time that remained unchanged for 59 consecutive races through 2004. The start time moved to noon in 2005 and again to 1 p.m. in 2006, when Indiana began observing Daylight Savings Time.

SHELBY AMERICAN COMMEMORATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF ORIGINAL STREET COBRA WITH SPECIAL EDITION CAR

LAS VEGAS – Jan. 21, 2011 – Almost 50 years ago, the sports car world was changed forever when the Ford-powered Cobra was introduced at the 1962 New York Auto Show. Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK), will offer a limited edition of 50 continuation “street car” Cobras to celebrate that milestone. Each will be painted “Shelby black” with a premium wine colored leather interior, special badges, wire wheels and other items. The 50th Anniversary Cobra was introduced at the 40th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011.

“Fifty years after its introduction, the Shelby Cobra is still an international symbol of high performance,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “Combining a robust, powerful American engine with a lightweight European chassis was brilliant. Half a century later, the Cobra remains one of the most coveted cars in the world. Shelby’s formula still resonates today and is followed by automakers worldwide.”

Built from 1962-1965, the CSX2000 series small block Cobra was born in Southern California when Shelby’s crew re-engineered the AC Ace to accept Ford’s new small block. Weighing only 2,020 pounds, the Cobra was nimble, quick and reliable. The Shelby was feared by owners in Ferrari, Jaguar, Chevrolet, Porsche and Aston Martin sports cars. The racing version dominated, culminating in the 1965 FIA World Championship.

In 1996, Carroll Shelby began manufacturing the small block “street version” Cobra once again. Today, the cars are component vehicles that can be fitted with a proper drive train by a customer or an authorized Shelby American Cobra dealer. Each car is built to order and delivered as a rolling chassis, less drive train, with a 1965 MSO. The 50th Anniversary Edition cars have some unique differences.

“Our CSX8000 cars incorporate safety and performance improvements without sacrificing driving excitement or originality,” added Gary Davis, Shelby vice president of production. “They retain everything from the authentic style leaf spring suspension to the graceful lines, but are upgraded to contemporary standards. For instance, we used Wilton Wool carpeting and the same leather found in high end cars, modern disc brakes, a stronger frame and the bodies are available in either aluminum or fiberglass.”

Standard features of the 50th Anniversary Cobra include:
• Body: Shelby hand laid fiberglass or aluminum
• Paint: premium “Shelby Black”
• Seats and dash: Rosso high quality leather interior
• Carpeting: Wilton Wool
• Floor and trunk mats: 50th anniversary
• Emblems: Shelby Cobra anniversary, side fender emblems
• Serial number: Special number denoting the car is one of the anniversary models
• Frame: 3-inch diameter DOM tube steel, .120 wall with modern Heim joints and graded bolts
• Front Brakes: 1" x 11-7/16" OD disc, dual piston Baer caliper
• Rear Brakes: 3/4" x 11-7/16" OD disc, dual piston Baer caliper
• Steering: rack and pinion
• Suspension: upper traverse leaf with lower arms, independent front and rear
• Differential: Shelby aluminum housing, Dana 44 gears with 3.54 gears
• Half Shafts: Spicer split spline
• Instruments: Shelby or Stewart-Warner
• Bumper: chrome oval
• Exhaust: side exit in front of rear wheels
• Mirrors: center rearview
• Wheels: 15" chrome plated steel wire with modern performance radial tires
• Fuel Tank: 14 gallon stainless steel
• Overall size: 151 ½” long and 72” wide with a wheelbase of 90”

“Only 655 total leaf spring small block Cobras were built between 1962 and 1965,” said Rick Kopec, director of the Shelby American Automobile Club. “Today, they’re among the most coveted sports cars in the world. It is certainly appropriate for Shelby American to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Cobra with these 50 special editions. Each will be documented in our ‘World Registry’ alongside the original ones built by Shelby American in the 1960s.”

The 50th Anniversary CSX8000 Shelby Cobra will begin at $69,995 for a fiberglass or $134,995 for an aluminum bodied car, without drive train. Cobras can be purchased through one of Shelby American’s dealers.

About Shelby American, Inc.
Founded by legend Carroll Shelby, Shelby American manufactures and markets performance vehicles and related products. The company manufactures authentic continuation Cobras, including the 427 S/C, 289 FIA and 289 street car component vehicles. The company offers the GT350 and GT500 Super Snake post-title packages for the current generation Ford Mustang.
