In December 1962, Petersen Publishing Company photographer Eric Rickman shot Don Hellwig (right) describing a new helper-spring kit to Hot Rod magazine’s LeRoi “Tex” Smith. Those who know Hellwig Products primarily for its truck and camper suspension parts may be surprised by the fact that the kit Hellwig was demonstrating was engineered for a Corvair.

Brake Proportioning Valve - Why is it important to Helper Springs?

Before the introduction of ABS brakes, most vehicles on the road had brake proportioning valves. A brake proportioning valve controls the front to rear bias of the brake system to avoid locking up the rear wheels during a rapid stop. Most of the brake proportioning valves installed are fixed in their bias and do not change the bias as the vehicle is loaded.

Toyota Tundra 2500 LB Helper Springs

The Tundra is a great workhorse but they are known to say in the rear when loaded heavily. This new 2-Leaf Helper Spring will resolve that issue. Due to clearance issues on the Tundra the springs are addd to the top of the factory spring pack so the factory bump stop is retained. New axle U-bolts are center bolts are provided for the springs. Once installed you can adjust the Hellwig Springs to provide the desired amount of load support. Once you set them no further adjustment is required. The Hellwig Helper Spring is easily installed using common hand tools with no drilling required. Keep in mind, adding helper springs Does Not increase the factory GVWR rating.
